Pastor Michael is a native of Medicine Hat. After high school and two years at the local college, he moved to Saskatoon to further his music studies. While studying there, Michael began ministry as a music coordinator, planner and leader. It was there that he heard the call to ministry. After graduating with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Saskatchewan he married Jamie Lynne Shupena and they moved back to Medicine Hat for Michael to teach elementary and Jr. High music and art. It was while teaching that he knew he had to follow his call to ministry and they moved to Cochrane, AB, where he completed his Masters in Divinity at the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary. While completing his degree, he served three years as Minister of Music in a church plant in Richmond Hill, Calgary. In November of 2000 he was called to Temple Baptist Church to serve as Pastor of Christian Education and Worship. He and his wife, Jamie, have three beautiful girls, Mary, Ruth, and Elizabeth.

Hi I'm Elvira Kenzie, administrative assistant at Temple Baptist Church. My husband Terry and I have been attending here for over 28 years and are glad to be part of this church family. As many other Medicine Hat residents, we originally came from Saskatchewan and go back to visit there from time to time. Terry and I have one son, one daughter, a son-in-law and two small dogs. One of my most treasured moments are those times that I can spend with my family. I have many hobbies; I love to read, sew, crochet and quilt.  I also enjoy going for walks.
