Our Roots

Temple Baptist Church was established in Medicine Hat because of a desire to tell people about Jesus.

In the late 1800s, German immigrants of various faiths came to settle a short distance north of the Cypress Hills. As the community grew in numbers, centers of worship were established, followed by mission stations. Medicine Hat was one of those mission stations.
In 1917, the Medicine Hat congregation was established as "First German Baptist Church."

"The congregation experienced many difficulties, but through it all, the Lord remained faithful and victorious."
Translated from a letter written in German by a charter member

Thus Far the Lord has Helped Us...

The church has undergone name changes and building projects over the years, and the congregation has been through a number of ups and downs. However, the purpose of the church remains the same. TBC continues to explore new mission opportunities for disciple-making in our local community and around the world.

Together, loving God, one another, and the world, as Christ-transformed disciple-makers.
